2010 - Growing and Improving
Virginia -1
Disaster Medical Assistance Team was chartered in 2004. Between 2004
and 2009 VA -1 DMAT conducted an unprecedented 76 deployments to 69
different locations in 23 states on 84 separate missions. This
included mission support responses to ten hurricanes, one five-state
affected ice storm, three State of the Union Addresses, one
Presidential State Funeral, one Presidential Inauguration, three
National Police Memorials, four air shows, the Mardi Gras, and two
Capitol Mall 4th of July Celebrations. During these deployments the
team conducted 13 different types of operations to include Command &
Control (JMT/MST/IRCT), DMAT, Strike Team, Disaster Mortuary Team
support, hospital augmentation/staffing, communications,
transportation, finger printing, logistics, Chief Medical Officer,
damage assessment, aeromedical staging and Federal Medical Station
missions. This included 352 individual deployments. VA-1 DMAT also
conducted training in four states, at four conferences, during four
air shows, and during two field training exercises. In 2010 the team
will continue its growth, particularly in the area of clinical
members, will be on-call for four months, and will continue to train
and prepare for any mission for which we are tasked by NDMS.
